The Xemancó Solar Disc and the Zipa Ritual in Guatavita
The Muisca Raft is a votive gold figure that depicts the investiture ceremony of the Zipa, leader of the Muisca people. The ritual involved covering the new leader with gold dust and taking him to the center of Lake Guatavita to offer gold and emeralds to the waters. This act inspired the European legend of El Dorado. The piece is one of the most important pre-Columbian artifacts ever found.
