Uluru Closes for Anangu Funeral: Tjukurpa Prevails Over Tourism

On August 28, 2026, Uluṟu-Kata Tjuṯa National Park will close from 6 a.m. to 11 a.m. for the funeral of an Aṉangu elder, in احترام to Tjukurpa — the living sacred law that guides the land and the people’s rituals. The park was also closed in June 2026 for Sorry Business, the traditional cultural mourning period. These closures show that Uluru remains an active sacred territory, where Anangu ancestral law takes precedence over any other consideration.
